Learning Centre
The
Learning Centre
Literacy
At The Learning Centre, we work closely with pupils who need support to develop skills and improve achievement levels. We identify, assess and support students in literacy. This may also include pupils who need challenging in subject areas, as well as those who need support.
PSD
The Learning Centre is also the base for the Programme for Students with Disabilities (PSD). Students who qualify for the programme are entitled to government funds which are directed toward maximizing pupil progress.
Funding is utilized in a variety of ways, because pupil needs are so diverse. Some pupils may simply require curriculum support whilst others may require material resources or teacher aide time.
Parent Support Group Meetings
PSD pupils are also entitled to regular Parent Support Group meetings. At these meetings teachers can negotiate achievable and challenging goals for the pupil. At subsequent PSGs, these goals are reviewed.
Individual Education Plans
Individual Education Plans are written for all students on the PSD programme. Teachers are encouraged to add or adjust goals in their particular subject. The plans are generally written to be used in class and linked to the general curriculum.
Pupils who are working at 3 years below the expected level in literacy are also entitled to an IEP in the area of need. Areas of strength are also identified and challenging goals are set and reviewed each semester.
