Year 9 Humanities Electives
Natural and Human Disasters: World Watch
This unit focuses on how natural disasters and social and political events impact on the modern world. We look at how these events are caused by evaluating weekly current events and issues.

No! Your Rights

As young people grow they are faced with the increasing responsibility of assuming their rights as a citizen and member of a community. This unit examines what these rights are, how a society protects them and importantly what responsibilities are associated with these rights.

Tourism

This unit requires students to investigate the Australian growth industry of tourism. Students analyse the industry discovering its importance as a leisure and business opportunity.
 

Year 10
Year 10 Humanities comprises core and elective units. In order for students to satisfy the requirements of the Year 10 Core Humanities course students must submit the following Assessment Tasks:

Year 10 Humanities Electives
Criminology (Crime and Punishment)

This involves students studying the Australian legal system. Students look at the development of our system and compare it to other systems around the world. The concepts of punishment are looked at in some depth. Questions of adequacy in regards to consequences are raised and studied.

War – Trenches to Terrorism
This study looks at war and its place in history. The study analyses the reasons why World War I started and the way the war was fought. Other conflicts are also studied including terrorism as a new type of warfare. War technology is a topic studied during the unit.

Money Matters
This commerce based subject gives students an insight into the study of subjects such as Business Management and Accounting. This study involves the students learning about controlling their own finances as well as studying the global nature of finance.

The World Around Us
This unit focuses on natural and human geography. Students study traditional aspects of geography, looking at different landforms and structures. This involves looking at how landforms are created. Of particular focus will be the Australian continent and the vast difference in the physical environment. Part of this unit l looks at how urban developments have impacted on the environment, population trends and the problems of third world countries.

 
VCE Humanities
Currently we offer students the following subjects:

Accounting

This study focuses on the procedures of accounting and finance and the way in which these procedures provide users with appropriate information for planning, control and effective decision making.

Business Management

Business Management examines the ways in which people at various levels within a business organisation manage resources to achieve the objectives of the organisation.

Geography

This study focuses on the geography of place and change. Geographers investigate the changing patterns of place using a range of geographical resources and skills. They observe, describe, explain and analyse patterns of phenomena which affect places at or near the surface of the earth.

History-20th Century History and Australian History
History is the study of human societies from the past through to the present. Its scope is vast covering all peoples, places and areas of interest. A study of History provides insight into people, their mistakes, successes, tragedies and triumphs.

Industry and Enterprise

The central theme of Industry and Enterprise is work and its place in Australian industry and society. The purpose of this study is to develop a knowledge of the world of work and to enable students to experience appropriate work settings. Students are encouraged to undertake both theoretical and practical investigations throughout the course.

Legal Studies
This study is about the way the law relates to and serves both individuals and the community. It focuses on developing an understanding of the way in which law is generated, structured and operated in Australia.
