Arts

Junior School Arts
The Arts is core based in Year 7, providing Visual Communication, Technology and Drama over the course of the year. Year 8 students complete a semester of Ceramics and a semester of Visual Communication.

Instrumental Music is a popular and highly successful program that commences at Year 7 and runs through to Year 12. Prospective Year 7 students are screened for their musical interests and then auditioned for selection. Some previous musical ability is an advantage but not necessary. Students are offered personalised tuition during normal Arts class time.

VCE Arts
At the commencement of the year all Studio Arts students participate in a Summer Arts Camp which offers them an intensive, challenging and stimulating art experience, providing inspiration for their work during the year as well as the opportunity to get to know their teachers.

Units 1 & 2 involve general drawing, printmaking, mixed media, painting and clay exploration. Life Drawing classes are introduced for students from Year 10 onwards as an after school activity. Local and city galleries are incorporated into their studies via excursions and artists’ talks.

Units 3 & 4 require the development of a brief on a particular topic or theme. Students are encouraged to become proficient in the use of a variety of software programs, especially Photoshop. A variety of gallery visits complements the course of study. Students are encouraged to visit the wide variety of tertiary campuses and complete a folio preparation course at their own expense.

Drama
The highlight for any Drama student is to perform in the successful College Production which is an annual event staged early in Term 3 which involves parents, past and present students and staff.

Other highlights for Drama students involve participation in the Monash Festival and the Comedy Festival, visiting productions and experiencing the wonders of live performances in Melbourne.

Visual Arts
Mount Erin College students enter exhibits at the Royal Melbourne Show, Derinya Art Show and local galleries with considerable success. The annual Awards Night in December is also a highlight for these students in Arts/Technology providing a forum for fine displays of their talents.

Visual Communication
Apart from the standard technical drawing skills and techniques developed in the Junior School, students are instructed in the use of computer packages such as Photoshop, Corel Draw, Illustrator, Flash, Paintbrush, Autocad and Tricad. Students are also given the opportunity to complete level one in Airbrushing as a full day workshop at the college which further contributes to the development of their folios.
