Mount Erin's students are given the opportunity to become members of 406 Squadron Australian Air Force Cadets. Entry age is 12 1/2 years. As Cadets, they also have the opportunity to be involved with the Duke of Edinburgh program.

Being involved with the Squadron's program builds self-confidence and self-esteem, improves self-discipline and develops both communication and leadership skills. In addition, students have the opportunity to meet new friends, travel both interstate and overseas, and learn various skills such as flying, gliding and parachuting.

406 Squadron's annual program involves weekly parades held Wednesdays 6.30-9.30 pm, weekend bivouacs and 4-5 day adventure training field exercises.
